Elmar Barmettler

Advisor

During his education in the field of retail with a degree as a federal certified retail economist, Elmar Barmettler expanded his knowledge with a lot of practical experience in his career.

As the youngest Swiss retailer, he started at the age of 20 as an independent franchisee of Spar Handels AG and was able to further expand his experience at Migros Luzern cooperative thereafter. Prior to his professional realignment, he spent eight years leading the marketing of fruits and vegetables and was responsible for wholesale in the agricultural sector.

Together with his wife, he runs BaerglerART GmbH and a small agricultural enterprise. BaerglerART GmbH aims to bring agricultural products to end consumers through more direct trade routes from producers. Creating transparency and mutual trust are important aspects.

"As a trader with a great selling heart, I am passionately committed to sustainable and meaningfully produced food from agriculture. I promote and demand effective trade and professional system partners. My connection to agriculture has been passed down through generations. It can be indulged in as a hobby in the summer on the Alpine pasture and at home. Under BaerglerART, we produce Alpine cheese in the summer and independently manage an Alpine pasture with cows. At home, we keep Pro Specie Rara breeds, thus directly promoting diversity and the preservation of Capra Grigia goats (including studbook management) and Valais Blacknose sheep. Whole animal utilization and sensible handling of food are important to me, with respect for animals and nature, all in the spirit of BaerglerART."
